Best Jacket ever! 10/10

This pattern is simply perfect! Is no slouch compared to channel it self! (Of course it’ll depend on the quality of fabric you use, but I recommend you to go all in, buy the best tweed and lining you can find, for it’s so worth it ! We’ve tested it in 3 different sizes, 6,8 and 10 and it was perfect! I absolutely love this! I can’t get enough, want one in every colour ASAP!

Perfect jacket for every occasion!

The Freddie Coat is a dream pattern, for the intermediate to advance sewer. I chose Group 2 - I am 5’6.5”, B cup, long arms, forward shoulders and slightly rounded back. I used a typical Chanel ‘tweed’ (wool, silk and lurex threads). For the lining I was lucky enough to have in my stash a beautiful silk taffeta in soft pink. Like all of Bella’s patterns, the instructions are thorough, clear and detailed (75 pages of photos, notes and explicit instructions). I have wanted to sew a Chanel inspired jacket for years, and this pattern does not disappoint. This is my fifth Bella project. In each of the previous projects (blouse (x2), shirt, dress, and Rupert coat), the fit was almost perfect. I did make a toile given that the fabric I chose is quite expensive and I wanted to be sure it fit to perfection. I made a few tiny adjustments on the pattern: pinched the back of the neck for a slightly rounded back; added 1.5 cm to the back width for more ease; lengthened the arms by 1 cm, but it was not enough so next time 2 cm, and I made it longer. I also added slightly more ease to the arm width – less than 1 cm, and this did ensure that the sleeves hung perfectly.
The fit is perfect.
I did make a few annoying mistakes which I will fix next time. Firstly, while I am not a fan of ‘block fusing’ the interfacing (Bella suggests this method in every pattern), I should have done so with this jacket. The ‘Chanel’ tweed was extremely difficult to work with as it frays like crazy, and it stretched. Because of this I really had to tinker to get the front seams/facing to line up perfectly. I also did not evenly match all the tweed lines. This was an oversight on my part and not a fault of the pattern. My two well-used sewing machines could not handle the buttonholes to my satisfaction (fabric too thick). I sewed those by hand.
I can’t say enough great things about Bella’s patterns. My only complaint is that she doesn’t have enough of them! I’m running out of projects!

Freddie Jacket

Perfect pattern, perfect fit.
I've been sewing for many years but the instructions for this jacket where unbelievably clear and precise, a complete novice would be able to make this jacket using the clear and precise instructions.
I will definitely be making another.

10/10 Fantastic pattern and beautiful jacket

I bought and made the taller height version and found I didn't need to lengthen sleeves or bodice like I usually do. The instructions were very clear with helpful photos along the way. I did scratch my head a couple of times but was able to work things out. I loved the construction - mainly machine sewn but with some hand finishes. I now have a beautiful, timeless jacket which I will wear for years to come.
